Destiny TVC

A cinematic breakdown of an official Mega Bloks Destiny TVC shot

About the Project

This project is a 7-second cinematic breakdown from a Destiny TVC sequence produced as part of an official Megabloks / Mattel Halo campaign. The animation was created by me directly for the TVC production, working from storyboard direction provided by Bungie and using manufacturing-ready character and vehicle assets supplied by the Mattel design team.

The original sequence exists as a fully realized cinematic moment, and this breakdown reinterprets it by exposing the layered structure behind the final shot showing how animation, rigging, environment design, lighting, simulation, and compositing come together to form a cohesive cinematic result. The spider-like mechanical unit is a key focus of the piece, requiring precise rig behavior to support multi-leg motion and grounded interaction across uneven terrain within the scene.

My role covered the full production execution for the TVC. I was responsible for animation and character performance using production-ready assets, as well as scene assembly and shot execution. The models used were official manufacturing assets provided by the Mattel design team, ensuring fidelity to the physical toy line and its design language. Additional scene development was carried out in Maya and 3ds Max, with all lighting, shading, and rendering handled using Arnold. All VFX work, compositing, and final shot assembly were completed in After Effects. Supporting design elements were created in Photoshop and Illustrator, and final audio and scoring integration was done in Adobe Audition.

The breakdown reveals how a 7-second cinematic moment is constructed from tightly interconnected systems including animation timing, rig behavior, material response, lighting direction, atmospheric layering, and compositing control. Each element plays a precise role in shaping motion, scale, and narrative clarity within the shot.

What makes this piece meaningful is the visibility of structure showing how a fully produced TVC shot is built through disciplined collaboration between direction, asset design, and animation execution.

Disclaimer: This project was produced as part of an official licensed production pipeline for the Destiny / Halo Megabloks campaign. Storyboards were provided by Bungie, and all character and vehicle models were supplied as production/manufacturing assets by the Mattel design team. This breakdown reflects my personal contribution including animation, rigging, scene execution, lighting, rendering (Arnold), compositing, and post-production assembly in After Effects for the final TVC shot.
